This is a mare I "rescued" from Kansas. The owner contacted
me, wanted me to work her and help him sell her. She didn't know how to
lead, had never been trailered, never had her feet done, never had a
relationship with a person. If I didn't take her, he was going to take
her to auction. *shudder* She was 4 years old. |
 |
I felt she deserved a chance. At first she was very dull
and unresponsive. As I worked to gain her trust, she brightened and came
to trust and enjoy our relationship. She was accepting of training, and
had beautiful gaits. I knew she had potential. I started working
with her under saddle. She was willing and brave, and when we went horse
camping and not much bothered her. She watched everything I did and
learned quickly. |

In this photo, she left her grass to put her head in my
chest for about 5 minutes, then went back
to eating. |

A long-time friend of mine was in New Jersey. She was
horseless and horse sick. I was delivering
Lady's Sassy Champagne to Wisconsin, and asked if she could
meet me there. She did, so she has been riding Grace out there for the
last year. Grace is very loyal to "her" person, brave and responsive.
She continues to improve her gaits as she gains strength and experience.
She should be very competitive in the show ring or on the trail.
