"Bay-B Ryder Delight"
Bay Mare
Foaled 3/20/92SOLD |
 |
|
I bought this mare up in Steamboat Springs, CO
when she was four. She had been brought in for a lady but she had
too much go. For my personal horse, I like go, intelligence and
autonomy. I like to ride a dominant horse. Sunny has the
endurance and hardiness to go all day and all the next week. We
call her "the ever ready bunny". She was terrified of the
bridle, would crouch and tremble when the saddle went on. It
took me a year to get her to accept the bridle quietly. She
thought petting was abuse. People were to be feared, not
partnered with. She was my second horse as an adult. |
 |
She is now fifteen. I have learned so much in my
odyssey to be a partner with this mare. She will kill herself
before she quits. Her competitiveness wasn't a problem until I
started riding with others, when she was about ten years old. She
hated to be behind, and if the nearest horse was within twenty feet, she was
chomping at the bit. I set about learning how to work with this
mare because she had no quit and it is not in me to use harsh
methods. They probably wouldn't work, anyway. She is the reason
I have developed the horsemanship skills I have today.

On one of our first rides, I got stuck on a cliff
up and cliff down trail. We came upon a slick 10 feet of rock at
45 degrees. Being young and dumb, I didn't even think of getting
off. I had an English all-purpose saddle. She got her hind feet
under her and simply slid down the rock as though it was
nothing. No hesitation. Then we came upon 2 foot stair drops, cliff
up and cliff down. Only way to go was forward, as we were 15 mi in.
My heels were by her ears and my head was on her rump. Da Dump.
Da dump. Da dump. That mare was mine from then on. No big deal,
she just went on about the business of going down the trail. No
fuss, no muss. No amount of money could buy her. |
|
Since then, she has given me five outstanding
foals,
Investment's Sunny Angel and
Investment's Silk-n-Satin,
out of Investment Genius;
Champagne
Silk-n-Honey out of
Champagne
Showcase, and a full sister to
Showcase's Flashy Jewell
and
Champagne Lace Perfection. She is
due Feb 1, 2008, at almost 16 and this will be her last foal.
She produces gaiting, strong-minded foals (so far all fillies)
with intelligence and curiosity. They are dominant horses and
need a horseman to bring out their talent. Domination will not
work. |
 |
|
For the challenge, her babies will be the ride
of a lifetime, only easier than she was because they had a good
relationship with a human from the time they hit the ground.
Manners, boundaries, respect, affection are what I use to bond
them to me. She is Heritage Certified in pedigree and Gait. She
is one in a million. What a ride! |
